Case Study – Cairngorm Mountains, Scottish Highlands

Buried away in the Scottish Highlands, a run-down farmhouse has been totally refurbished and transformed into a beautiful, modern mountain retreat with the addition of numerous FAKRO roof windows.

From Old Farmhouse to Mountain

“The bespoke roof window sizes required to meet the brief, coupled with the fact that many lower storey roof windows could be seen up close and intimately, meant that FAKRO were the go-to product to meet the clients needs.”

This old farmhouse overlooking the Cairngorm Mountains needed a little TLC to enhance the stunning views of the treasures that surround it. Anna Carswell from CM Design, Architectural Design & Planning positioned the layout specifically to deliver more light into the heart of the house and a new extension which was executed beautifully by Steve Cox Building Contractors.

As is the case with many refurbishments, the balance of aesthetics and safety was vitally important in the design of this project, as the Scottish Highlands are often faced with unpredictable weather conditions. The quality of FAKRO FTU-V P2 windows along with the topSafe security system stamp of approval gave the client and designers the reassurance that this project would be both tasteful and secure.

The beautiful installation of the L-Shaped Combination Windows in the kitchen area has resulted in an epic increase in the amount of light entering the home and has significantly increased the field of view. This means the happy residence are now taking full advantage of the outstanding natural beauty that surrounds the property.

“The end result is stunning from inside and out, and has delighted our clients whilst inspiring others to realise what a transformation can take place with FAKRO roof windows at the centre of the design strategy.”

The Team at CM Design, Architectural Design & Planning were particularly impressed with the service they received from both their FAKRO GB Business Development Manager in Scotland and the internal sales team. Quoting the family directly they commented the team were ‘always on hand before, during and after the refurbishment was complete and were particularly helpful in confirming the fitting had been carried out correctly and competently.’

Whether a customer is buying through a FAKRO GB stockist or their merchant partner website Roof Windows 4 You, a dedicated team of Sales and Technical Managers are on hand to help at every step of a project from design and strategy to the ordering process and finally to implementation and after care.
