How to choose a skylight

When choosing flat roof windows for your home there are various factors to consider. The right choice for you will largely depend on the space available and your preferences. At RW4Y, you’ll find a range of FAKRO skylight windows to choose from to find the perfect match for your needs.

Best types of glasses for a skylight

Wondering what the best type of glass to use in the frame is? Roof windows typically use double or triple pane sheets, but at RW4Y we have lots of skylight window glazing options to choose from. Here are some of the glazing options you can choose from:

  • U6 triple glazed highly energy saving – A step up from the U3 glazing, U6 offers three panes to keep the warm in and the cold out to help save money on utility bills, U6 provides a U-value of 0.8 W/m²K
  • U8 quadruple glazed Passivhaus – Passivhaus-certified U8 glazing offers one of the lowest U-values on the market at 0.58 W/m²K, this means that heat transmission is extremely low, which helps keep your spaces warm while saving you money
  • DW6 triple glazed walk on – This toughened glass is literally strong enough to walk on, and uses 24.8mm laminated glass with toughened safety glass on the outside pane and partially toughened safety glass on the middle and bottom pane

At RW4Y, all our FAKRO flat roof windows come with a 10-year warranty included.

How to measure skylight for replacement

Accurate measurements are crucial when replacing an existing skylight, and will allow for seamless installation. All measurements used on RW4Y are displayed width x length and we recommend contacting a qualified builder or window fitter to measure your space before you buy.

How to stop condensation dripping from skylight

To keep your windows in the best condition it’s important to be proactive to prevent condensation building up and dripping from your skylight. Maintain proper insulation around the frame and keep the room ventilated. You may wish to install a dehumidifier or ventilation fan if necessary.

How to clean skylight windows from inside

To keep your skylights looking their best and working well it’s important to clean them regularly from the inside. Use a soft cloth or sponge and a mild detergent solution to remove any dirt and grime. Avoid harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaners, as these can damage the frame and glass.
